w/ E.Carlson and D.Mcnulty
What is Celux?
Located on the top four floors of the Louis Vuitton building in Omotesando Tokyo, Celux is a members only club offering services, lounge and shopping zone for a highly exclusive clientele.
Founded by Louis Vuitton Japan, Celux represents the apex of quality and luxury for Japans demanding fashion elite. Celux members are invited not based only on their wealth or traditional social status, but by their contemporary cultural influence and street credibility.
Celux is High fashion meets street Culture.
Tyler Brule, columnist for the Financial Times and founder of Wallpaper and Monocle magazines, called ‘Celux possibly the world’s most exclusive concept shop’.
In the New Publication by Frame Magazine ‘Dress Code’, Matthew Stewart says “Celux is quite possibly the world’s pre-eminent luxury retail experience.’
The rare fashion and home items that are available to the guests are specifically designed by the 12 fashions houses found under the LVMH umbrella, and sells edgier names such as Rick Owens and Ziad Ghanem in addition to Vuitton’s own brands.
Located in the Louis Vuitton building design by Japanese Architect Jun Aoki, the principle architectural intervention for Celux was to link both major levels spatially and commercially, creating a background for the ever-changing seasonal products on display. Product display was concentrated on the two longitudinal elevations, extending the full height of the vertical planes.
One of the design strategies of Celux was to disrupt the connotations of Luxury and Fashion by breaching the expected traditional use of materials and their placement.
High and Low is mixed and matched. Custom materials, furniture and light fixtures with industry leaders ( Cassina, B&B Italia ) were developed specifically for this project.
Together with Corso Como 10 (Milan) and Colette (Paris), Celux was one of the worlds first concept stores, and is considered by many, to be amongst the best.
Location: Omotesando, Tokyo, Japan
Year: 2002
Collaboration: E.Carlson and D.Mcnulty
